Firstly, we’d like to wish all of you a very Happy New Year. If you were with us to see in 2026, what a fantastic night we had!
2025 was an incredible year for us, marked by record numbers of customers enjoying our food, drink, live music, events, and award-winning service. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make it all possible, including our superb staff, led by Iain Dawson (Head Chef) and Dounia Cope (Front of House Manager), as well as Tom Abbott (Brewer), and, of course, to all of you, our loyal and regular customers. Your support meant the world to us.
However, after a long and thorough review of the business, and taking into account our own personal circumstances and health, we are deeply saddened to announce the immediate closure of The Old Warehouse and Moonhoney Meadery Ltd. until further notice.
This decision has been incredibly difficult for us to make, and only after every possible option had been explored. Despite the successes of the past year (including winning prestigious Gold awards and being shortlisted for ‘Best Bar’ and ‘Best Restaurant’ at the recent Food Drink Devon ceremony) and our excitement over the planning permission we received to expand the business into the first floor, the commercial realities of operating in the current economic climate, combined with rapidly escalating costs for food, staffing, energy and more, mean it just doesn’t make sense for us to invest further or continue to operate at this time.
We will, of course, ensure all our staff and suppliers are given fair notice and paid appropriately and do all we can to help them going forward.
As co-founder and director (and initially head brewer), Sam has poured his heart and soul into this business, whilst Andy came out of retirement to offer support. Together, we have given everything we can, but have reached a point where we have to close this chapter of our lives and move on. For Sam, this decision also comes as he navigates family life with a young child, has a wedding on the horizon, and a desire to be able to rebuild some balance in his life.
Whilst the closure is heart-breaking for us, we are grateful for the incredible memories we’ve created together - memories of amazing live music, fun-filled festivals, quiz nights, home-made sausages, French beef dips, and tables full of conversation and laughter. The Old Warehouse was always about more than just great food, beer and mead; it was about building a community, a space where people felt welcome and connected.
We are so proud of what we’ve built and are incredibly thankful to all of you who supported us - our customers, staff, musicians, suppliers, collaborators, and friends. We will always cherish the journey we’ve had together.
Over the next few months we will do everything we can to find new owners and/or investors to take on some or all of the business as a going concern and, hopefully, harness the amazing love and support you have given us. If you are personally interested in taking on the business, or know someone who might, be please message us or email via info@theoldwarehousekingsbridge.co.uk.
We’ll keep you updated on any progress and, hopefully, have the chance to raise a glass with you at The Old Warehouse in the near future. In the meantime we ask for your understanding, support, and kindness as we navigate through this incredibly tough time.
Thank you for being part of this amazing journey.
With love and best wishes
Sam & Andy Jones
